Pepe Martí, the great promise of Spanish motorsports, who is a disciple of Fernando Alonso at his A14 representation agency, is one of the stars of the British F1 GP. His presence in the Formula 1 paddock did not go unnoticed this Friday when he met, in full view, at the Red Bull hospitality. And none other than Helmut Marko, the sports advisor for the energy team; one of F1’s most notable scouts.
It is the second time -that is known- that Marko meets with Pepe Martí, who has just turned 18. The first time was at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, on June 4, after Pepe Martí achieved his first victory in a feature race in F3. His stellar performance earned the interest of Red Bull, who invited him to his hospitality to chat with him.
The same thing has happened now at Silverstone, but before the boy has run, even before going out on track for qualifying. Pepe Martí, who was third in the qualifying session (the short race is this Saturday, 10:20 am), received an invitation from Helmut Marko to chat on the Red Bull terrace. “They asked his [Campos Racing] team if he could meet with Marko and they gave him permission,” sources close to the Catalan driver confirmed to this newspaper. Although he did not reveal the content of the interview, without intermediaries or agents involved.
The evident interest of Red Bull in Pepe Martí opens the possibility – not unreasonable – that the Barcelonan could be recruited in the young pilots program of the energy team. If that were to happen, Martí would follow in the footsteps of Jaume Alguersuari and Carlos Sainz, who were pilots supervised by Red Bull and Helmut Marko. As also the current champion, Max Verstappen, or previously Sebastian Vettel.
