Eight years ago, on June 7, 2015, Osasuna experienced one of the most dramatic days in its history. They had to get a point in Nova Creu Alta, against Sabadell, to stay in Second Division A. What happened there is the history of the Navarrese club, which now, when facing one of the greatest challenges in its history in the final of the Copa del Rey against Real Madrid, wanted to remember that this story began in the Catalan town.
That is why Atlético Osasuna has placed a banner in an area near Nova Creu Alta with a message in Catalan that says “A matter of the soul, all history has an origin and ours was in Sabadell”.
In that dramatic match, Osasuna had to get a point, since Racing de Santander, with whom they were competing not to be relegated, beat Albacete (0-1). Sabadell began by winning 2-0, a result that sent Osasuna to Second Division B. The Navarrese, however, ended up leveling the score in the 90th minute and got a vital point so as not to lose the category.
“We are a club that looks to the future without forgetting the past. And Sabadell will always be important in our history. A city that is engraved in the heart of Osasunism. A sister hobby that we respect. Friends, we count on your support in the Cup final”, the Navarrese club published on Twitter in Catalan.
For their part, Sabadell published that “it is a source of pride that they keep us in mind before a historic event for Osasuna. Good luck in the Cup final on May 6!
And it is that for Osasuna, that salvation was the beginning of a long road of eight years, which continued with promotion to the First Division the following season after beating two other Catalan teams, Nástic and Girona.
