Lando Norris is not the calm boy he seems. Under that face of a child who has not broken a plate, hides a fierce competitor. He is so with his teammate at McLaren, but also with anyone who dares to attack his team. Thus, the British driver responded bluntly to an assessment made by Fernando Alonso at the Qatar GP press conference. The Asturian said that McLaren perhaps had “overconfidence” in relation to their fight for fourth position in the Constructors’ World Championship.
Norris did not like the Asturian’s assessment at all, and he did not hesitate to respond to the man who had been his teacher in the past. The response was much more aggressive than expected. “Are you saying we’re getting too confident? How many points did we make up last weekend? Quite a few. More than 20, I think (29). So, unless your math is deteriorating, which I’m sure it’s not the case… Fernando is just Fernando, he is always going to say things,” Lando Norris responded to the Motorsport.com portal.
“Alonso always makes himself look good or makes others look bad. He’s very good at that,” he added. An attack on the Asturian, with whom he had always maintained a good relationship in front of the cameras.
“I don’t think we’re overconfident. I think we’re the last people who have been overconfident when it comes to saying something. Especially myself,” Norris added.
“I thought we were a lot more points away, so for us to be 49 with six races left and two cars going well… they suffer to have two cars up there in Q3 or up there at the end of the race, so I would say it’s silly for him to think otherwise. But he’s a smart guy, he’s not stupid at all. So, I’m sure we can do it, because if we can have more podiums and things like that, then, yeah, of course it’s possible (to catch up with Aston Martin)”, he concluded.
