Hernandez told reporters he came in at 224 pounds this season, 17 pounds heavier than he did ahead of an injury-marred 2016 campaign, after a winter working out with trainer “Iron” Glenn Freeman, who previously worked with Hernandez’s M’s teammates Robinson Cano and Nelson Cruz. Hernandez and Seattle management hopes increased lower body strength leads to a bounce-back 2017 season for “King Felix.”

“I have to prove people wrong,” Hernandez told reporters on Tuesday. “I feel fine. I feel healthy. That’s the main thing.”

Position players officially report to Peoria on Saturday, with the first full-squad workout scheduled for Sunday. The Mariners start their Cactus League schedule versus the San Diego Padres on Feb. 25.
