The Portuguese Grand Prix, which began with a smile on Marc Márquez with the podium on pole position and the Sprint on Saturday, ended with a bad taste in the mouth for the Catalan driver. To the more than likely penalty that will fall for knocking down Miguel Oliveira entering turn 3 in the race, the Repsol Honda man added a broken thumb on his right hand, and a forceful penalty for Argentina (if he ends up running ): a double long lap (twice you will have to go through the extension of the track).

Jorge Martín was also injured in his fall on lap 19: he broke a toe, according to Dazn TV.

According to Dr. Ángel Charte, MotoGP medical director, Márquez had to go to the Mobile Clinic at the Portimão circuit to examine a damaged hand.

“He had a fall that at first did not seem important, but the x-ray we have done shows a possible fracture of the first metacarpal of his right hand, which has been immobilized,” explained the doctor. In the next few hours he will be examined at a hospital, before traveling to Argentina.

In principle, the participation of the Catalan pilot in the second race of the World Championship is doubtful, depending on the severity of the fracture and rehabilitation, for which he only has four days. The right hand is the one used to accelerate.

For his part, Miguel Oliveira, who was taken off the track on a stretcher, did not suffer any injury, as confirmed by the MotoGP doctor.
