The 2024 Paris Olympics concluded with a spectacular closing ceremony where athletes from various nations participated. Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo passed the Olympic flag to International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach, who then handed it to Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. Bass, accompanied by gymnast Simone Biles, who was in a walking boot due to a calf injury, stood on stage as H.E.R. performed “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the Stade de France.

Actor Tom Cruise made a grand entrance by rappelling down from the stadium’s rafters and receiving a kiss from a woman before taking the Olympic flag and embarking on a journey from Paris to Los Angeles on a motorcycle. Cruise was seen racing through the streets of Paris and onto the back of a cargo plane before reaching the Hollywood sign adorned with the Olympic rings. Pro mountain biker Kate Courtney then passed the flag to former U.S. sprinter Michael Johnson at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

Johnson carried the flag through Beverly Hills to Olympic skateboarding medalist Jagger Eaton, who skateboarded his way to Venice Beach where the Red Hot Chili Peppers performed at an LA 28 concert alongside Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg, and Dr. Dre.

The upcoming Los Angeles Olympics are set to commence on July 14, 2028. This will be the first Summer Olympics held in the United States since Atlanta in 1996, with Los Angeles previously hosting the Games in 1984. The United States aims to top the medal count in 2028 after tying with China in 2024.
