Jean Ramirez, Tampa Bay Rays bullpen catcher, committed suicide. His family said that "suffering in silence" is not okay.

According to the Tarrant County (Texas), Medical Examiner’s Office, Jean Ramirez, Tampa Bay Rays bullpen catcher, committed suicide this week.

Ramirez, 28, died Monday in Fort Worth, Texas, where he was a high school student. Ramirez, who played in three minor-league seasons with the Rays, was their bullpen catcher from 2019 to 2019. Ramirez aspired for a coaching position in the major leagues.

In a team statement, Rays manager Kevin Cash described Ramirez as an “incredible friend and teammate”. Ramirez brought passion and energy to the clubhouse and bullpen every day, and his love of baseball and the Rays was obvious to everyone who met him. He was a man of great heart and infectious smile. Jean will be greatly missed.”

According to the Tampa Bay Times’, Ramirez’s family issued a statement to team members saying “suffering silently is not OK.”

They said that the loss of their son was “the most painful experience they have ever experienced.” “Unfortunately, sometimes we don’t see all the signs. It is not okay to struggle in silence. We have made it our mission to help other families in honor of our son’s death. Parents should not have to suffer the loss of their child.

“We are extremely grateful to the Tampa Bay Rays, who we consider our family for their love, support, and kindness. All of you made our son feel loved. We are grateful to all of our friends, family, and anyone else who has supported us in any way.
