Jan Vesely renews with Barça until 2026

Center Jan Vesely reached an agreement to renew his contract with Barça, which expired in the summer of 2025, until June 30, 2026, as announced this Friday by the Barça entity.

According to sources from the Catalan club, the Czech international’s previous contract contemplated a bilateral cut-off clause next summer (2024) and the player had already received offers from other clubs, but finally opted to extend his relationship with Barça.

“We have decided to renew the contract. The decision has been very quick and easy. I am very happy to have made it because I feel very comfortable with this decision and I am enjoying Barcelona a lot,” Vesely said in statements to the Catalan club’s media. .

When he signed for Barça in the summer of 2022, the center was already considered one of the most dominant centers in Europe after a long career in Partizan Belgrade (2008-2011), the NBA (2011-2014) and, above all, all, Fenerbahce Istanbul (2014-2022), where they won the Euroleague in 2017 among many other successes.

In his first season as a Blaugrana, Vesely (Ostrava, 1990) was a key player in reaching the Euroleague Final Four and winning the Endesa League, and in this second campaign at the Palau Blaugrana his ascendancy has been increasing, establishing himself as one of the leaders of the team.

The Czech center is Barça’s top scorer and most valued player in the Euroleague, with an average of 12.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 16.6 rating credits in 21 minutes per game. In the Endesa League, his figures are 10.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 13.5 rating credits on average in 18 minutes per game.

In statements to the Barça media, Vesely regretted last Sunday’s defeat in the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid (96-85), but sent an optimistic message: “We still have two competitions left where we must fight for trophies and, therefore, I am very positive.

“It’s not easy to lose, but I think this can make us stronger and I think everyone has the mentality of forgetting the Cup as soon as possible. Next week, against Monaco, we play at home again and we have to be ready to play the second part of the season and fight for two more trophies,” he said.
