Illness forces LeBron James out of Bulls-Cavaliers game

Michael Carter-Williams didn’t travel to Cleveland because of patellar tendinitis, and Jerian Grant started in his place at point guard. Coach Fred Hoiberg said there’s no timetable set yet for Carter-Williams’ return.

The Cavaliers’ absence is a bit more impactful: LeBron James isn’t at Quicken Loans Arena due to an illness.

Carter-Williams joins Paul Zipser, who has left ankle tendinitis, in Chicago. Carter-Williams surprisingly started over Grant in Friday’s overtime victory over the Suns but played only eight minutes.

James missed the Cavaliers’ Saturday morning shootaround and joins Kevin Love (knee surgery) and J.R. Smith (broken right thumb) as out.

The Bulls own a three-game win streak.
