The French newspapers have attacked Kylian Mbappé after PSG’s elimination in the Champions League semi-finals at the hands of Borussia Dortmund. L’Équipe, which rated the forward with a score of 2 out of 10, the worst score next to that of Dembélé (2/10), harshly criticized the French footballer: “he offered very little to be a contender for the Ballon d’Or” .
Furthermore, the sports newspaper points out Mbappé’s inefficiency in one-on-one situations, one of his great specialties: “His last game with Paris in the Champions League seemed like a nightmare. He was infinitely fragile and dominated in the duel with Hummels, from which he did not leave in the one on one,” the newspaper stressed.
The general media also criticized the player wanted by Real Madrid, after going dry in the 180 minutes of the tie. Le Parisien notes that his last big European night in Paris was marked by “sadness and disappointment in a nightmare scenario.” Likewise, they comment that he said goodbye to the Champions League “without making a difference.”
On the other hand, Le Figaro has criticized that Mbappé was “missing.” And the prestigious Le Monde, usually unrelated to sports, headlines: “After the Parisian elimination, the time for lamentations,” and blames the club chaired by Al-Khelaifi for “a new failure of its strategy.”
The French newspapers had expectations through the roof, since the French team faced, a priori, the most affordable rival. However, PSG in general and Mbappé in particular have not met expectations, causing the star’s last season in Paris to conclude in the worst possible way.
