Euro 2024: Lewandowski Excited for Return to Germany

Robert Lewandowski is eagerly anticipating a “sentimental” return to Germany for Euro 2024, where he had a successful playing career before transferring to Barcelona.

The 35-year-old Polish striker made a significant impact at Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, winning a total of 10 Bundesliga titles between 2010 and 2022. Additionally, Lewandowski clinched the Champions League with Bayern in 2020 and became the second-highest scorer in Bundesliga history with 312 goals in 384 games, tying with Bayern legend Gerd Mueller for seven Bundesliga top scorer awards.

Expressing his emotions about the upcoming tournament, Lewandowski shared, “For me, it is already sentimental, a return to the country where I spent many years, where I lived, where I also played in these stadiums.” He emphasized his positive attitude and appreciation for his life and career.

Although Poland secured a spot in Euro 2024 by defeating Wales in a penalty shootout, they will face a tough challenge in Germany. The team has experienced instability in leadership with five different coaches in the past three years. Despite these obstacles, head coach Michal Probierz remains hopeful about Poland’s performance in the tournament.

In Group D, Poland will compete against the Netherlands, Austria, and France. This will mark their fifth consecutive appearance at the European Championship, with their best result being reaching the quarterfinals in 2016. Lewandowski, who has scored 82 goals in 148 international games for Poland, aims to make a significant impact in the upcoming Euro.

Reflecting on his mindset for the tournament, Lewandowski acknowledged the high expectations and pressure but emphasized the team’s positive energy and unity. He expressed confidence in the team’s preparation and highlighted the strong chemistry among the players.

Overall, Lewandowski is looking forward to a successful campaign at Euro 2024 and hopes to lead Poland to a memorable performance in the competition.
