Frenkie de Jong is not having any luck this season with injuries. The Barça midfielder suffered the third serious physical setback this season in the Liga classic at the Santiago Bernabéu, just before half-time, after a strong collision with Fede Valverde.
The Dutchman went to dispute a divided ball with the Real Madrid player. The Uruguayan, who went into the shot with more force, tried to kick the ball in the direction of the Blaugrana goal, while De Jong went for the ball with less determination and took the worst part.
The ball remained in play, but the match referee, Soto Grado, stopped the match before De Jong complained of pain, lying on the Bernabéu grass. Barça medical assistance attended to the Blaugrana player, who tried to stand up without success before being taken off the field on a stretcher.
De Jong injured his ankle in September during the matchday six match against Celta, a problem that kept him out of the competition for two months and caused him to miss 10 games. On March 3, he suffered a setback to the same ankle again, against Athletic in San Mamés, which kept him in the infirmary for more than a month in which he missed four games.
