From Date Night to Pizza Empire

Brandon Bruner Sr. and Aja Lynn Humphreys, the dynamic duo behind Lynn’s Chicago Pizza, found their culinary inspiration during a stay-at-home date night. Both lovers of pizza, they shared a mutual dissatisfaction with the heaviness of Giordano’s deep dish and the cornmeal crust. Determined to create something perfect, Bruner—a seasoned chef hailing from Woodlawn—and Humphreys—an administrator from South Shore—embarked on a journey to craft the ultimate pizza.

Their creation was so exceptional that it quickly gained popularity among friends and family. They soon began selling their unique pies at local bars and lounges, gradually amassing a dedicated following. Specializing in pies named after various south side neighborhoods, Lynn’s Chicago Pizza offers a diverse menu that includes Chicago thin crust, New York-style options, sandwiches, and fresh pasta. Bruner’s stint as a sous chef at Labriola on Michigan Avenue provided valuable insights on transitioning from a pop-up concept to a full-fledged brick-and-mortar establishment.

In February, the duo established a presence in Hazel Crest’s events space, launching their catering services before settling into a storefront at 61st and S. Eberhart. Positioned strategically in an area devoid of pizzerias, Lynn’s Chicago Pizza quickly became a neighborhood favorite. Now, they are gearing up to open a new location in Woodlawn, a testament to their success and growing reputation in the industry.

Monday Night Foodball Debut

As Lynn’s Chicago Pizza prepares to expand its footprint in the culinary landscape, they are set to make their debut at Monday Night Foodball, the Reader’s weekly chef pop-up event at Frank and Mary’s Tavern. A celebration of the event’s third anniversary, this partnership exemplifies the platform’s mission to showcase talented chefs with innovative concepts and culinary prowess.

The upcoming event will feature two of Lynn’s Chicago Pizza’s signature slices, including the iconic Dorchester pie adorned with sausage, caramelized onion, spinach, and provolone. Additionally, patrons can savor the Oxtail pizza—a viral sensation crafted from a two-day process of slow-braising chili-rubbed cowtail. These delectable offerings represent Lynn’s Chicago Pizza’s commitment to creativity and quality, setting the stage for an unforgettable dining experience.

Expanding Horizons

With the anticipation building for Lynn’s Chicago Pizza’s official launch in Woodlawn, food enthusiasts can get a sneak peek of their culinary delights at the Monday Night Foodball event. Located at 2905 N. Elston in Avondale, this special showcase will feature the New York-style expression of Lynn’s Chicago Pizza, starting at 6 PM on August 26.

In addition to the tantalizing pizza offerings, Foodball attendees can look forward to an array of upcoming events, including the return of the Sausage King of Milwaukee Avenue on September 9 and the Foodball debut of Morgan Street Snacks on September 16. These events promise a diverse culinary experience, highlighting the creativity and talent of local chefs in the vibrant Chicago food scene.

As Lynn’s Chicago Pizza continues to make waves in the industry, their participation in Monday Night Foodball serves as a testament to their dedication to culinary excellence and innovation. With a focus on quality ingredients, unique flavor combinations, and a commitment to community engagement, Lynn’s Chicago Pizza is poised to become a household name in the world of Chicago’s pizza aficionados.
