Just a few hours after confirming the signing of Willy Hernangómez, Barça has confirmed the arrival of Darío Brizuela, who this Thursday has paid the termination clause, of more than one million euros, to disassociate himself from Unicaja de Málaga. The 28-year-old Basque becomes the third new face of the project led by Roger Grimau after the pivot and Joel Parra.
“Thank you Dario. From the Club we wish you all the best on a professional and personal level. Málaga will always be your home”, the entity from Malaga said goodbye to him on Twitter, thus confirming that he had paid the termination clause. Brizuela occupies the escort position initially thought for Kevin Punter, who finally decided to renew for Partizan before joining the Palau.
The Spaniard, who renewed last April with the Malaga club for three seasons, received an offer from the Barça entity that improves his salary and equalizes the years of his contract. This past season, Brizuela was proclaimed champion of the Copa del Rey, played in the final four of the Champions League and reached the semifinals of the Endesa League, precisely where he lost against Barça.
The man from San Sebastian, nicknamed the ‘Basque mamba’ by his idol Kobe Bryant, averaged 9.2 points in 15 minutes in the 34 games he played in the Endesa League last season. His two-point shooting percentage was 57.5% and his three-point shooting percentage was 30.3%. In the four years at Unicaja he has played 160 games, with an average score of 12.73 points.
Brizuela finished his training at Estudiantes, where he played five full seasons with the first team. The Basque, summoned by the Spanish team to play in the World Cup, was proclaimed European champion with the national team last season.
