Brahim Díaz, born in Malaga but of Moroccan descent, ruled out playing with the Spanish national team last week to join the Atlas Lions, with whom he is currently concentrating for the friendly matches against Angola and Mauritania. The Real Madrid player, who was received like a star upon his arrival in Rabat, assures that he received “a lot of love” from the African country before making the decision.
“I had to decide and for a long time they showed me affection. I have roots in Morocco and now I have to show it on the field and return that trust,” explained the forward, whose paternal grandfather was born in Morocco. Brahim could make his debut this Friday against the Angolan team in Agadir.
The man from Malaga was scheduled to be included in Spain’s squad for the friendly matches against Colombia and Brazil, but he finally opted for the Moroccans. “I am also very grateful to them. This does not change anything. I have worn the national team’s shirt and I want them to do as well as possible. I have noticed a lot of affection from the people and I respect their opinions,” said a player about the deal with the Spanish Federation. Brahim who has played throughout his career in the youth ranks of the Spanish team.
After spending time at Manchester City and on loan at Milan, this season Brahim is finally being important with Real Madrid, although he still retains the role of substitute. “I feel very good, I came to succeed in Madrid, that was my dream and now it is coming true. The work and sacrifice in the end pays off and now I am living a great moment. I hope everything stays the same,” he commented on his performance.
