Bayern Munich and Real Madrid meet this Tuesday in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals. The European football classic pits two of the most successful teams in the competition: the whites, kings of Europe with their fourteen conquests; against the Germans, the third most successful team with six.
Real Madrid start as favorites, after beating the current Champions League champion on penalties and one of the contenders for the title, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, who submitted them during the second leg at the Etihad Stadium.
With the league under their belt and the massive rotations of the last league game, all eyes are on the whites’ eleven. With the entry of Lucas Vázquez in the right lane for the suspended Dani Carvajal and a single doubt to clear between Nacho, Tchouaméni and Camavinga.
Unlike Real Madrid, present in twelve of the last fourteen semifinals of the top European competition, Bayern is playing everything on its own after losing its hegemony in the Bundesliga after eleven consecutive league titles. They arrive at the first leg with good results but after ceding the German crown to Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen.
Their last four games have ended with victories, without a doubt the most important being the one against Arsenal in the Champions League that gave them qualification for the semi-finals after three seasons falling in the quarter-finals.
It will also be a special duel for the English midfielder against a club that embittered his start to his career at Borussia Dortmund. He snatched the Bundesliga from them on the last day. He failed to beat him in one of the eight duels, of which he lost seven and tied one.
The first leg of the Champions League semi-finals between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid will be played this Tuesday, April 30, at the Allianz Arena, at 9:00 p.m. The meeting can be seen on television on Movistar and can also be followed live through the La Vanguardia website.
