Carlos Alcaraz faces his first semifinal at Wimbledon this Friday, after clearly defeating the Danish Holger Rune in the quarterfinals (7-6, 6-4 and 6-4). The Murcian will face the Russian Daniil Medvedev, who overcame the American Christopher Eubanks (6-4, 1-6, 4-6, 7-6 and 6-1).
Medvedev already knows what it’s like to beat him at Wimbledon, because he defeated Alcaraz in 2021 in the second round. However, this season, the Murcian beat him in the Indian Wells final, leaving only five games, in a new exhibition.
The Russian removes iron from his last defeat with the Spanish. “I think Indian Wells is not going to count for much here. It was a very slow track. Here the service is going to be very important and there I couldn’t get free points with it,” he explained at a press conference.
Medvedev is confident of surprising the tennis player from El Palmar: “He doesn’t stop and I don’t think he will, but I’ve already played against many great players in my career and I’ve managed to win many times, so if I give my best I’ll have chances.”
Alcaraz has gone from less to more on the Wimbledon grass. The Murcian assures that he has the “feeling” that he can “win the tournament”, although he continues to put Novak Djokovic, seven times champion, as the main candidate.
The Wimbledon semifinal between Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev will be held this Friday, July 14, at 4:30 p.m. The game can be seen on television on Movistar and can also be followed live on the La Vanguardia website.
