The rainfall recorded over the weekend in Catalonia has only served to provide a “slight respite” to the drought situation suffered by the entire central region and Girona and they are far from having provided sufficient flows to get out of the exceptional situation.
The reserves of the reservoirs have gained almost 2 cubic hectometres, so between the rate of unloading and the reduction in needs, it is estimated that this would provide reserves for a week or a week and a half, according to the Agencia Catalana de l’Aigua. “We need it to rain for three consecutive weeks constantly, permanently and not torrentially; at least to recover a certain normality â€, say ACA sources.
The great virtue of the contributions generated in this episode of rains is that they have made it possible to “break the declining trend of reserves” in the Ter and Llobregat reservoirs that have been registered for some time almost constantly.
On Friday the level of the reservoirs continued to drop while on Saturday and Sunday the balance tipped. On Monday, however, the rainfall occurred in areas far from the headwaters of the rivers (Maresme…).
The gain has been slightly higher in the Ter than in the Llobregat. The La Baells reservoir, in the Llobregat, have increased by 0.19 hm3. In the Ter, reserves have increased by 1.5 hm3 since Saturday. It is also expected that the runoff will make it possible to earn some more contributions.
The rivers showed an unknown image over the weekend. The flow at the headwaters of the Llobregat and Cardener reached peaks of 20 m3/s in Guardiola de Berguedà and 5 m3/s in Guixers. At the head of the Ter, 12 m3/s were recorded in Ripoll
