Starting this Thursday and until Sunday, “an important change in weather” is expected, according to the spokesperson for the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), Rubén del Campo. After the passage of successive fronts in recent weeks, the arrival of new Atlantic storms on the peninsula will leave from today “widespread and abundant rains” in large areas of Spain and a sharp drop in temperatures.
This Thursday, a first cold front will sweep the country from west to east, leaving more abundant rainfall in Galicia, southern Castilla y León, northern Extremadura and western Andalusia, where it may be strong, persistent and even with hail. In the eastern part of the peninsula and in the Balearic Islands they will be less intense and will not arrive until early Friday morning.
According to Aemet, there will be a general thermal decrease, with snow levels dropping to around 1000 meters, so accumulations will only occur in the main mountain systems, where very strong gusts of wind predominantly from the south are also expected.
Intense winds will blow throughout the country, from the south in the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, and from the north in the Canary Islands, with strong intervals on the west coast of Galicia and in the mountains of the extreme north and the Central system. Some intervals of strong westerly winds are also expected on the Andalusian coast.
Given the storm, the agency has activated the yellow warning for this Thursday due to strong gusts of wind in Aragon, Asturias, the Balearic Islands, Cantabria, Castilla y León, Navarra, the Basque Country and La Rioja. In Galicia, Castilla y León and Extremadura, due to snow. And in these last two, also, due to significant rainfall.
Starting on Friday, the mass of cold air that will enter late on Thursday will move towards the east of the peninsula and in this area a “sharp drop” in temperatures of between 6 and 8 degrees is expected with respect to the values ??of the yesterday.
Tomorrow there will also be abundant rains that will be recorded again in the west, especially in Galicia, Castilla y León, Extremadura and western Andalusia. And it will snow from about 800 to 1,000 meters.
According to the agency’s forecast, Saturday will most likely be “the most adverse day” of this episode, with the arrival of a “new, deep Atlantic storm” accompanied by cold air, which will once again lead to widespread rain. snowfall at low levels and intense winds.
