The weather in Spain continues under the influence of an anticyclone, so clear skies and warmer temperatures than usual are expected for this time of year. According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), this weather pattern will continue this Sunday, February 4.
Temperatures will reach surprisingly high values, with maximums of up to 24 degrees in some areas of Catalonia and 25 degrees in the Canary Islands. However, despite this pleasant weather, there are alerts in force in several provinces for coastal phenomena and fog.
Specifically, the province of Cádiz, in Andalusia, is on yellow alert due to adverse coastal phenomena. Meanwhile, Huesca, Lugo and Lleida face alerts due to the presence of dense fog that can affect visibility on the roads.
However, Aemet has also issued an interesting forecast for next week. After three weeks without significant rainfall due to the anticyclone, a change in meteorological conditions is expected. From Thursday the 8th to Sunday the 11th, an episode of widespread rain is expected throughout Spain, with notable accumulations on the peninsular Atlantic coast.
This phenomenon, known as an atmospheric river, will bring significant amounts of rain to the coastal areas of the Atlantic peninsula, which is positive news for many regions. However, the rains are expected to be less intense on the Mediterranean coast and in the Canary Islands.
The arrival of these rains is especially relevant after a prolonged period of drought that has affected various sectors, especially agriculture, and the lack of relevant rainfall had generated concern in numerous areas. In fact, the Government has proposed bringing daily boats with water from Valencia to Catalonia in response to the drought emergency. Therefore, this change in trend is welcomed with optimism.
