Spring weather has its days numbered. Starting on Thursday, a change in the weather pattern is expected, with a thermal drop due to the entry of a mass of polar cold and possible significant snowfall in the Pyrenees and the southwestern Cantabrian mountain range.
“On Friday, a northwest situation awaits us with typically winter weather due to the post-frontal cold discharge, which will affect practically the entire northwest half of the peninsula,” explains the spokesperson for the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), Cayetano Torres.
On Thursday there will be an important change in trend with the entry of an Atlantic front, which will leave rainfall in the northwest half that will extend to the rest of the peninsula, except in the extreme southeast of the peninsula and in the Balearic Islands, according to Torres.
There will be abundant rainfall in the west of Galicia and in the Cantabrian Sea, which will be snow in the mountains of the northern half, with the elevation around two thousand meters and which will decrease little by little to seven hundred meters in the northern third.
For Thursday, a drop in temperatures is also expected in the northwest, although they will increase on the Mediterranean side and the Canary Islands, where they will continue to exceed a maximum of 20 degrees.
For Friday, typically winter weather is expected due to the post-frontal cold discharge, which will affect practically the entire northwest half of the peninsula, with rainfall that will be abundant in the extreme northwest of the peninsula and with snow at relatively low levels, according to the Aemet. .
Temperatures will drop significantly, especially the minimum temperatures in the southeastern half of the peninsula. The maximums will also register strong and widespread decreases throughout the territory, especially in the northwest, the Pyrenees and in the extreme southeast of the peninsula, where the decreases will be more pronounced.
Stable weather is expected until Thursday. For this Tuesday there will be slightly cloudy skies and no precipitation in most of the country. Low morning cloudiness is only expected in the extreme north of the peninsula, the northern plateau, the valleys of the south, the depressions of the northeast, the coasts of Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, the Strait and Melilla, with the probability of generating morning mists and fogs.
Despite the decrease in the maximums in the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands, Catalonia and the south of Huesca, this Tuesday they will continue at high values ??for the season in most of the country, they will even increase in the northeastern half of the peninsula.
