In the midst of adverse weather that seems to give no respite, Spain is preparing to experience an Easter Sunday that promises to be marked by extreme weather conditions. Storm Nelson, whose influence is still palpable, brings with it a cocktail of atmospheric phenomena.
These range from widespread rainfall to snowfall at considerable heights, including strong winds and dangerous waves in different coastal areas. This complex meteorological panorama has led the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) to issue a series of warnings that affect a large part of the national territory.
According to the latest updates from Aemet, the situation is due to a cold air front linked to the aforementioned storm, which is expected to cross the peninsula from west to east during the next few hours. This meteorological episode will bring with it both rain and showers, but also precipitation in the form of snow in several regions, especially at altitudes between 900 and 1,400 meters. The combination of these factors has led to the activation of yellow warnings in large areas, warning of the risks associated with these conditions.
Precipitation is expected to be more important in the southern half of the country, as well as in the areas of the Central System, the Pyrenees and western Galicia, although it is expected to decrease in intensity towards the afternoon. Special attention to Andalusia, where especially intense rainfall is expected in areas close to the Mediterranean coast.
This situation will also be accompanied by intense snowfall in the main mountain ranges, especially in the Pyrenees, and very strong gusts of wind, especially in the extreme south and in the mountain ranges of the eastern half of the country, including the Balearic Islands.
Although a change towards more stable conditions is expected to occur in much of the peninsula on Monday, April 1, cloudy skies will continue to be a constant in many places. Even so, weak rainfall is expected that, as the hours go by, should decrease, except in Galicia, where more intense and persistent rainfall is expected.
Furthermore, on this day there will be an increase in the snow level, which will reach 1,400 meters in the northern half and 1,800 meters in the south, while weak and scattered rainfall could occur in the Canary Islands.
