A meteorologically intense week is approaching in Spain, and the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has already issued alerts for significant changes in the weather. This Sunday, November 26, a calm atmosphere is expected, but this scenario will change drastically in the coming days. The forecasts point to a radical change, marked by the arrival of rain, snow and a drop in temperatures.
Monday and Tuesday will be key days. The Aemet predicts rainfall in the north and in the Balearic Islands, being more intense in the eastern Cantabrian Sea. In addition, snowfall will occur in the Pyrenees, with levels ranging between 1,200 and 1,600 meters. These phenomena will be accompanied by morning fogs on the Atlantic slope and winds from the north and west in regions such as Ampurdán, under the Ebro, the Balearic Islands and some areas of the Cantabrian coast.
Frost will be another factor to take into account. Starting Monday, the mountains of the northern half of the peninsula will experience light frosts, which could also occur in the moors and in the east of the southern plateau. In the Canary Islands, an increase in cloudiness and possible precipitation is expected on the mountainous islands.
Starting on Wednesday, meteorological instability will intensify, spreading across most of the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands. The rains will be more frequent in the western third and, as the week progresses, they could affect the entire territory. Heavy rainfall is expected, especially in the western third, and an increasing chance of snowfall in the northern mountains.
Looking ahead to the December long weekend, these meteorological changes could benefit ski resorts, which hope to be able to open slopes thanks to the expected snow. However, it remains to be seen whether these conditions will continue during the holidays.
