The intense cold and extreme temperatures that have been recorded in recent days throughout Spain have their hours numbered. This week the arrival of a powerful anticyclone is expected that will prevent the entry of Atlantic storms and that will trigger temperatures, which will be “notably above normal” and will be “more typical of the month of March”, according to the Agency’s forecast. State of Meteorology (Aemet).

The anticyclonic situation will leave some morning fogs in the interior of the peninsula. Rain will be practically non-existent throughout the country, except for some showers that will occur this Monday in the extreme north of the peninsula, according to the agency.

For today, high pressures are expected to dominate in much of the country, although an Atlantic front will leave cloudy or overcast skies in Galicia, Asturias and a good part of Castilla y León, extending to the rest of the extreme north of the peninsula throughout the day.

There will be weak rainfall in Galicia and western Asturias, with the probability of extending to the extreme northwest of Castilla y León, the Cantabrian Sea and the western Pyrenees throughout the day, and will be more abundant on the Galician Atlantic coast, and may be persistent.

In the rest of the country, slightly cloudy or clear skies predominate, although with intervals of high clouds in the rest of the northern half of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, and cloudy intervals in the north of the Canary Islands, and in the Strait area.

Temperatures will increase practically across the board, except for the minimum temperatures in the southeastern half, where they will decrease. The minimums will rise noticeably in the northwest and the Pyrenees. A preview of what awaits us in the coming days.

More than a dozen provinces will reach a maximum of 20 degrees this Monday: Valencia, Seville, Oviedo, Murcia, Ourense, Málaga, Jaén, Granada, Huelva, Córdoba, Cádiz, Las Palmas, Santa Cruz de Tenerife Alicante or Almería.

In its forecast, Aemet also highlights the strong gusts of wind. The Basque Country, Asturias, Cantabria and Galicia keep the orange warning activated this Monday (significant risk) due to rough seas with strong waves that could reach seven meters in height.
