The passage of a cold front will once again leave a wintery impression. For this Friday, a storm of precipitation, waves, strong gusts of wind, snow and a significant drop in temperatures are expected in much of the Peninsula. A panorama that has forced warnings to be activated in half of the country, red (extreme risk) in the case of Galicia, according to the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

The Atlantic flow will affect the peninsular Mediterranean area and the Balearic Islands, so abundant cloudiness is expected in the Mediterranean and the southeast, with probable showers in the northeast of Catalonia, the Balearic Islands and the Betic systems.

Cloudiness and precipitation accompanied by some storms are also expected in the northwest and the Pyrenees, more abundant in Galicia, where they may be locally strong or persistent. In the rest of the Peninsula, intermittent, weak and scattered rainfall is likely, although it is not expected in the rest of the Mediterranean area and under Guadalquivir.

Temperatures will drop across the board, the maximums sharply in much of the Peninsula and the minimums. In almost no province will the maximum temperature exceed 20 degrees. In some of the interior, such as León or Ávila, they will not exceed 9 degrees.

Frost will occur in the mountains of the northern and southeastern half, and it is not ruled out locally on the northern plateau and east of the southern plateau. They can be locally strong in the Pyrenees.

Snow levels on the Peninsula will be, in the north, 700/1,000 meters, in the center 900/1,200 meters; and in the south, 1,000/1,400 meters. The Aemet has activated yellow warnings for accumulations of up to five centimeters in the Sierra de Madrid, Segovia, Soria, Burgos or Huesca.

The storm will leave winds from the west in the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, with strong intervals in coastal and mountain areas, especially in the southeast of the peninsula and very strong on the coast of Galicia and the Cantabrian Sea.

In Galicia, the red warning (extreme risk) has been activated for waves up to nine meters high. For this same reason, there will be an orange notice in Andalusia, the Basque Country, Cantabria, Asturias. In Catalonia, the Region of Murcia and Castilla – La Mancha, the yellow warning has also been activated due to strong gusts of wind.
