HARROGATE (Ekstra Bladet): A shock wave rolled on Friday through the WORLD cup in Yorkshire, as the victor in the under 23-riders ‘ amazing race, was disqualified and crestfallen and deeply distressed rolled from the target area on his bike.
Nils Eekhoff shot first over the line in a spurtopgør, but when he cheering was embraced by the Dutch staff in the target area, they were notified that the 21-year-old rider during the race had done something that would be investigated.
A video-commissioner had in fact seen that Eekhoff had received all of the highly illegal pace of its servicebil, when after a crash was brought back to the field.
It confirms the UCI’s chief press officer Louis Chenaille, to Ekstra Bladet, and he adds, that the images of the illegality had not been sent in the tv, but was only for the commissioner’s use.
It meant that Nils Eekhoff was disqualified and thus still not be able to call themselves world champion.
Nils Eekhoff broke and crying together, as it dawned on him that he had been disqualified, writes the journalist Peter Cossins on Twitter:

the Disqualification meant that the 20-year-old Italian Samuele Battistella was crowned world champion. Schweizeren Stefan Bissegger was number two, while the local hero, the briton Tom Pidcock, reached on the podium in third place.
Danish Andreas Kron was number five in the race after a formidable – but also exhausting – effort in the course. He lay through the whole race in the front in the tough terrain, and it cost on the last metres. The result is very distinguished, but the Danish delegation in the target area was clearly disappointed that Kron was not rewarded with a medal.
Mikkel Bjerg and Morten Hulgaard drove a splendid race and was, respectively, number eight and 16.
Battistella rolled over the line as number two in the grueling race, and he looked to be temmmelig happy. When gold came along, was the day, of course, only even better for the young Italian, who next year will become teammate with Michael Valgren and Andreas Stokbro on the World Tour team Team NTT.
I feel with Eekhoff. I was happy for my second place, but of course also for my gold medal now, said Battistella in the official vinderinterview.
– I was well prepared for this race, but I still can’t believe that I am the world champion. Maybe I sleep in regnbuetrøjen in the night, said Battistella.
Also the Danish Andreas Stokbro and Italian Alexander Konychev was disqualified because, in the panel’s view, received the pace from the service trucks.
