TVE has announced an agreement with the PSOE, Vox and Sumar to hold a debate with the leaders of the national parties, Pedro Sánchez, Santiago Abascal and Yolanda Díaz. In this way, the pressure on Alberto Núñez Feijóo, president of the PP, who has not yet accepted the invitation, increases.
After holding a meeting to which no representative of the Popular Party has attended, the public corporation has announced that the three parties (PSOE, Vox and Sumar) have agreed to hold the debate of candidates for the presidency of the Government on July 19, four days before the general elections. The RTVE statement reiterates the invitation to the president of the Popular Party, who for the moment is the only national leader who has not accepted the four-person debate.
During this week, RTVE and the PP have exchanged communications in which they quoted each other. At the beginning of the week, the PP released a statement through the party’s Deputy Secretary for Institutional Action, Esteban González Pons, in which he criticized the public entity in the face of the chain’s attempt to organize another face-to-face between Sánchez and Feijóo on the sidelines. of Atresmedia and assured “not to trust its neutrality”.
For its part, RTVE responded in another statement that the Entity “is not only neutral, but essentially plural and, above all, professionally independent, and for these purposes, without any reproach from the bodies in charge of ensuring the cleanliness of the electoral processes.” .
In the midst of this controversy and after learning of the agreement of the other three political leaders, the pressure now falls on the national leader of the Popular Party, who must decide whether or not to accept RTVE’s invitation to the four-person debate.
The TVE announcement comes days after the confirmation of a face-to-face between Sánchez and Feijóo in Atresmedia, and after the leader of the popular groups proposed a seven-person debate to which the President of the Government should attend.
The corporation has also announced a debate with the parliamentary spokesmen of six of the seven parties with their own group in Congress (PSOE, Vox, Sumar, ERC, PNV and EH Bildu), pending the acceptance of the Popular Party, which still He has not confirmed his participation.
