Angels 7, Cubs 5
The Angels rallied for four runs off reliever Maikel Cleto in the sixth inning Tuesday to rally to a 7-5 victory over the Cubs at Sloan Park. The start of the game was delayed by 29 minutes because of rain.
At the plate: Manager Joe Maddon took a look at Addison Russell at the cleanup spot, which could come in handy in games in which Ben Zobrist bats leadoff. Russell cranked his second home run in as many games, a three-run shot to center field in the third.
On the mound: Alec Mills, who is targeted to start at Triple-A Iowa, worked out of a jam in the first. Mills has been compared to Kyle Hendricks because of his control and reliance on off-speed pitches.
In the field: Center fielder Albert Almora Jr. crashed into the center field fence after catching a drive by Jefry Marte in the third. Shortstop Munenori Kawasaki botched a grounder that led to a run in the fifth but made up for his miscue by making a stop of Martin Maldonado’s grounder and flipping the ball to second while on his knees to start an inning-ending double play.
Key number: 4 – Home runs by the Cubs this spring.
