Three bundles of hashish found on a Prat beach

The workers in charge of cleaning the beaches of the metropolitan area were surprised by something unexpected yesterday. At six in the morning, on Prat de Llobregat beach, they discovered three bundles of hashish among the waste that had accumulated in the sand as a result of the strong storms that have unloaded in Baix Llobregat in the last week. The operators reported the find to the Mossos d’Esquadra, who were responsible for guarding the goods. The Catalan police have opened an investigation to find the origin of the drug and those responsible for transporting it to El Prat.

It is not usual for drug traffickers to land drugs on the beaches of Baix Llobregat and the Barcelona conurbation, as they are very populated areas and they prefer to use other less frequented ones on the coast of Tarragona, especially in the Delta de l’Ebre . The last landing of hashish in the Barcelona area was in February, in the port of Mataró, where fifteen people were arrested when they tried to unload a narco boat.

The Metropolitan Area of ??Barcelona (AMB) has reinforced the cleaning system this summer and has activated an exceptional provision to act after storms, as happened in El Prat. Weather forecasts predict a summer of strong evening storms that will cause the Llobregat and Besòs rivers to rise, which, in turn, will lead to more waste accumulating on metropolitan beaches. Due to the storms, fifteen Maresme and Barcelonès beaches were closed yesterday due to the poor quality of the water.
