Because? Despite the fact that the answer will not bring back the life of Silvia, the neighbor of Castro Urdiales allegedly murdered by her two children, the young age of the suspects (13 and 15 years old) explains that yesterday this question was the most heard in the around the family touched by this drama, with particularly cruel undertones. For now, on mobile, it’s all guesswork. What is most surprising now is the cold blood in the movements of the precocious suspects.

It is taken for granted that the two brothers, J. and E., originally from Russia and adopted by Silvia and her husband years ago, are behind the crime. Her mother’s body was found Wednesday night in the backseat of her car in the home’s garage. He had a fatal neck wound and bruises; the body was bound by the hands, wrapped in a blanket and with a garbage bag on the head. Silvia’s corpse had been placed there.

The Civil Guard was working yesterday to reconstruct the events. Was she killed after driving into the garage with her children in the back seat and would that explain the car crashing into a wall? Or did they kill her at home – the house was boarded up – and then they took the body down to the garage and moved the vehicle? A visual inspection of the scene would point towards the last hypothesis.

The alert went off when Silvia’s mother called the Civil Guard to report that something strange was happening at her daughter’s house. It is not clear if she was the one who contacted her grandchildren because Silvia was not answering the phone, or if it was the brothers who called their grandmother to tell her, in this strategy to exonerate- know, that they had been kidnapped. It’s surprising, at such an early age, that these brothers had the cold blood to devise the kidnapping plan and manipulate the various crime scenes to mislead the investigators.

The abduction theory was taken for granted at first. Controls were set up at the entrances and exits of Castro with searches of all vehicles moving at that time through this Cantabrian city of 32,000 inhabitants. But after two in the morning, everything became clearer, after the two brothers were located, hidden in the cliffs of the Cotolinos park. One tried to escape in the direction of a forest when he spotted the officers, but in the end both were arrested. With E., as he is under 14 years old, nothing can be done criminally. It is imputable. So, just yesterday he entered a center while he decides on his future. His brother, J., spent the whole day in the barracks and the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office has requested a six-month admission to a closed center. He will have to answer criminally.

But back to why? Silvia, very religious and a catechist, had a lot of contact with parishes in Castro and had worked as a caretaker at the hospital in Cruces. The commotion among the people who knew her in both environments was capital, since no one had detected anything strange in the relationship of the woman with her children. On the contrary

The same at the school where the brothers studied, a Christian center. This school has made it known that E. and J. were not conflicted, “with good grades”, the mayoress of Castro, Susana Herrán, came to say yesterday in a press conference. The father of the minors and Silvia’s husband, who on Wednesday had the night shift at a factory outside Castro where he works, did not believe what he was being told when they called him to tell him about the cruel event. He did not expect this and was shocked.

For all these people, this has not been, like other events, an announced chronicle. Although, in the middle of yesterday afternoon, some voices began to be heard, among Castro’s neighbors, that pointed to strange behaviors of the older brother. “It wasn’t going the right way”, was heard in these small groups of neighbors who were looking for the reason. Some would have heard the mother and her children arguing over the past few days.

The main line of research, in mobile research, now focuses on the domestic problems typical of any family. A punishment for a bad move or bad grades? Do you fight because of too much rigor in the rules? They are open avenues for inquiry. A conflict that came from some time ago? It will have to be investigated. Was it a fit of rage or a planned crime? It will be seen.
