The president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, has announced his intention to unblock “as soon as possible” the renewal of the statutory bodies that have expired for months. In order to reach an agreement that was impossible at the end of the last legislature -the PP and Ciudadanos withdrew from the pact at the last moment-, Mazón has indicated that the popular group in Les Corts will initiate a round of contacts “to talk to everyone”.
Among others, it is pending to renew institutions as important for democratic control as the Sindicatura de Comptes, the Consell Jurídic Consultiu or the Consell de Transparencia. And reinforced majorities are necessary.
The Valencian president has made these statements in the framework of the SER Meetings held at L’Oceanogàfic de València in which he has commented on the results of the last general elections or has claimed his pact with Vox. Asked by the journalist Bernardo Guzmán about whether he will press the PSPV to reach an agreement – given that with Compromís they already give him the numbers – he has indicated that he prefers to “avoid pressing” and bet on “agreement”; and has added that it will be his “last resort”.
During the interview, Mazón has made dialogue a transversal tool and has opted for it, not only for the renewal of the entities, but to maintain the relationship with the unions and employers and even to seek agreements with Castilla-La Mancha on water.
As for the formation of the Valencian Government, he has rejected that the agreements reached in the Valencian Community have mobilized the left and has thanked Carlos Flores -Vox’s candidate for the Presidency of the Generalitat- “for the gesture he had [resigned to be part of the new executive] and that made things easier”. Flores had been convicted of “habitual psychological violence” against his ex-wife.
The president of the Generalitat has indicated that 23-J “has consolidated the change in two months” since the two parties that make it up -PP and Vox- have increased in votes both with respect to the last general ones and the regional ones of less than two months ago. “We have come out quite well unemployed. The change is advancing”, he has indicated.
Regarding his relationship with Catalonia, Mazón has admitted that this relationship must be taken care of -so important on a commercial level-, but “without subordination” and on “a level of equals”. Along these lines, he has defended his Identity Signs Law, which, in his opinion, does not go against anyone who complies with the Constitution.
