The blue tsunami of the PP is the predominant color of the municipal map of Madrid where the popular ones have won the elections in several municipalities of the so-called southern belt of the region as proof of the historical records achieved in this 28-M.

In the event of reaching agreements with Vox, the party chaired in Madrid by Isabel Díaz Ayuso could wrest the mayoralties of a good handful of socialist strongholds from the left, including Alcobendas, Móstoles or San Sebastián de los Reyes. “The red belt buckle is blue,” summed up the Alcorcón PP last night.

The clearest government would be in the town of Móstoles, where the PP candidate, Manuel Bautista, current vice-counselor for Education in the regional government, would once again recover the municipal government for the ‘popular’ after 8 years of socialist governments, since it is An alternative pact of the left is impossible.

The current mayor, Noelia Posse (PSOE), who became Mayor in February 2018 after the resignation of David Lucas and who revalidated her position in the 2019 elections, has dropped from 10 to 7 seats and, although she agreed with Más Madrid (4 councilors) and Podemos-IU (1 councilors), would not reach an absolute majority.

The other feasible option for the PP to recover a mayor’s office in the southern belt is Leganés, where the current mayor, the socialist Santiago Llorente, who has dropped from 10 to 8 councilors, could not repeat his current government after the disappearance of Ciudadanos, his current partner of Government, and despite the rise of Más Madrid.

In this way, the PP candidate, Miguel Angel Recuenco, could reach the Mayor’s Office if he reaches an agreement with the independents of Unión por Leganés (ULEG), who lose a councilor compared to 2019, and Vox, who would win a councilor, although the Negotiations will not be easy, especially when it comes to reaching an agreement between ULEG and Vox.

In San Sebastián de los Reyes, the PP has achieved victory with 11 councilors and 40.05% of the votes, and is two councilors short of an absolute majority, which it could add if it adds the 3 Vox councilors.

The PSOE of Narciso Romero, current mayor, remains in second place with six councilors, one less, and 20.27% of the votes, ahead of Izquierda Independiente de Sanse, which achieves three councilors and 12.23% of the votes.
