Alberto Casero left politics at the age of 45, after a lifetime of public office in the PP, where he joined at 18. He had the fifteen minutes of fame that every human being deserves, no matter how insignificant, when he pressed the wrong button (he had to decide between two) to pass the labor reform that rejected his training. Without his mistake, this law approved two years ago, which has given employment stability and transformed the labor market, would not have entered into force. Feijóo has acknowledged that if he had arrived in Moncloa he would not have changed it, which shows that it is a bad policy to be systematically against everything the government does when it is in opposition.
The luck for the Spaniards is that Casero was there to unstitch by day what his party sews at night, like a revived Penelope. Perhaps it was not bad luck, but an unconscious vocation to err in order to protect the common good. Less than six months had passed since the assassination when he made a mess of the buttons again and on this occasion he supported the commission of inquiry to determine the responsibilities of Mariano Rajoy in the case of the patriotic police during the so-called operation Catalonia, against the position of the PP.
This Casero did not refer to his surname and voted differently from those in his home. It was not for lack of experience, since he had been a councilor and mayor of Trujillo, a member of parliament in the Assembly of Extremadura, a member of Congress and a member of the Senate. Rather, it was because of his bad head, understanding the term not in a moral sense, but in the organizational one.
On Tuesday we saw him again but badly shaved. He had left the PP in order not to harm it (more) in March of this year, after being accused by the Supreme Court of embezzlement of public funds and prevarication as mayor of his city. He has accepted a sentence of one year and nine months, six years of disqualification and the payment of compensation of 70,000 euros. A humiliating end for someone who at least did a decent act: approve the labor reform.
