Fifteen days after arriving in Marivent, the royal family appeared in public again on Thursday night, at the doors of the Ciutat cinema, in Palma, where, infected by the pink tide, they went to see the film Barbie before heading back to Madrid this weekend.
After years in which there was no record of the presence of the Kings and their daughters on the island beyond the week of the Mapfre King’s Cup regattas, this time it has been possible to certify their stay in the island thanks to the few, but chosen, public appearances, all together or in groups, the last of which this Thursday at the cinema. The Kings, together with Princess Eleonor, Infanta Sofia and Queen Sofia, chose the successful film that rewrites the history of the popular doll. The family went to the last session of Barbie that is shown at the Ciutat cinemas, located in the annexes of the old Escorxador de Palma, now converted into a leisure center, to the joy and logical surprise of the citizens who enjoyed sitting on the terraces.
Princess Eleonor stood out in the family group with a pink dress, by Sfera, and to show off, for the first time in public, the nails of her hands painted red; a detail that she will not be able to repeat in the coming months, when she enters the Saragossa Military Academy, where the cadets must comply with strict rules of appearance and clothing. Thursday’s outing, in addition to confirming their fondness for cinema, certifies the presence of the Kings and their daughters in Mallorca after their last public appearance on Saturday, August 5, when, in the company of Queen Sofia and Princess Irene of Greece, went out to dinner at a restaurant in the seafaring neighborhood of Portixol.
The King arrived in Marivent, where Queen Sofia had already been a week before, on July 26, and the Queen, together with her daughters, arrived three days later, and inaugurated her stay with the closing of the Atlântida Film Fest. All four appeared for the first time together on July 31, when they visited, prior to a call to the media, the gardens of Alfàbia. In addition to the daily presence at the regattas, the King fulfilled, just after arriving on the island, the hearings with the Balearic authorities, and on the 3rd, with Queen Letícia and Queen Sofia, he offered a reception in Marivent to the authorities and society of the Balearic Islands. Letícia and her daughters visited, on August 4, the Jovent workshop school, where a group of children with functional diversity participated in a play, a visit that transpired through the center’s Instagram account. Although it was confirmed that the King hired a speedboat to use it these days on private trips to the sea, there is no graphic record of these excursions. The King plans to go to Asuncion (Paraguay) this Monday to attend the inauguration of the president, Santiago Peña. Two days later, on August 17, Princess Eleonor will enter the Zaragoza Military Academy and, from that day on, in addition, after the constitution of the Courts arising from the elections of 23-J, the Rei will have to start consultations with the different political parties to propose a candidate for president of the government.
