The King returns to land after the regattas

The King has spent the week at sea, and the Queen, on land. Now, after the end of the regattas, the royal family will be able to enjoy the rest of their vacation together.

Felipe VI has participated in all the regattas of the Mapfre King’s Cup aboard the Aifos, the Navy sailboat which, after the last race contested yesterday, took second place in its ORC51 category. From the first day, the boat climbed the positions and even prevailed in the 30-mile (55-kilometer) inshore regatta that was contested on Wednesday, but in the end could not rise with the final triumph. Last night, the King handed over the consolation trophy to his Aifos teammates with an eye already on improving his position on the podium next year.

Unlike other years, in which he had skipped some test due to his official obligations, this time the King was able to embark every day. From Monday until yesterday, around 10 am he was already at the yacht club facilities, where he arrived driving a Cupra Formentor car. After meeting the crew and preparing the day’s test, he would embark to compete in the regatta and return to land around five in the afternoon.

As in previous years, neither Letícia nor her daughters, Elionor and Sofia, have made an appearance at the yacht club. Although they had the motorboat that the King has rented for the private use of the royal family on their outings at sea, the appearances of the Queen, the Princess and the Infanta have been on dry land. On Monday they took family photos in the gardens of Alfàbia, and on Friday mother and daughters shared the morning with the children attending a workshop at the Jovent school farm, on the outskirts of Palma. The Queen began her stay on the island on Sunday by attending the closing of the Atlântida Film Fest, and on Thursday, together with the King and Queen Sofia, she hosted the reception for the Balearic authorities and civil society which was held in Marivent.

The family starts the private part of their vacation today: a few more days in Mallorca before returning to Madrid. The King travels to Paraguay on the 14th for the inauguration of the new president, Santiago Peña, and on August 17 Princess Eleonor will enter the Zaragoza military academy. Infanta Sofia still has a few days until she starts classes at Atlantic College in Wales (United Kingdom) on August 29.
