This Thursday, the Government of Aragon harshly attacked the Ministry of the Interior for sending some 200 immigrants who had arrived in the Canary Islands to the province of Huesca without first notifying them or having coordinated their assistance with the local authorities.
Before the media, the Minister of Social Welfare and Family, Carmen María Susín, described it as “institutional disloyalty” and “irresponsibility” that the Ministry led by Fernando Grande-Marlaska has made the decision without previously notifying the Aragonese Executive or asking them. where they could place them or how they planned to care for them.
“They treat them as if they were packages, distributing them throughout Spain, without notifying the regional governments even though we have the means to attend to them adequately,” he lamented.
Furthermore, he claimed to be unaware of the future that awaits all these newly arrived people. “We do not know how long they will remain, nor their subsequent journey, nor what the Government of Aragon should do to adequately attend to them,” he added.
As he explained, the first news came to them late Wednesday after a call from the Services area of ??the Alto Gállego region (Huesca). Apparently, the immigrants had been transferred to Madrid on Sunday on a charter flight and then an NGO was in charge of taking them by bus to Aragon.
Currently, there are 50 immigrants staying in a hotel in Quicena and another 145 in a shelter in Sabiñánigo, both towns in the province of Huesca. According to the newspaper Heraldo de Aragón, it is expected that in the coming days they will be joined by another group made up of 85 sub-Saharans, who will arrive in Zaragoza, and another 50 who will travel to Tarazona.
Huesca has become the first Aragonese province to receive sub-Saharans to alleviate the migratory pressure of the Canary Islands, which has been in an emergency situation since last Tuesday due to the increase in the arrival of foreigners to its coasts.
Only in the first half of October, the Canary archipelago received a total of 8,561 immigrants, which marks a record with unprecedented numbers since the cayucos crisis of 2006, when the Canary route marked its historical maximum, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Interior.
Despite the controversy due to lack of coordination, the Department of Social Welfare is preparing the assistance device beyond the first aid agreed upon by the Interior with the NGOs. These are young people who will require basic issues such as health coverage, language learning and a job placement itinerary.
To resolve these issues, the regional Executive has convened this Friday the Migration Table, where, in addition to the Government of Aragon, the Government Delegation, personnel from the regions and entities involved in the care of immigrants will be present.
