The electoral debate between the candidates for the Generalitat of Catalonia organized by the PRISA group and which was to be held this Friday morning has finally been suspended. The newspaper El País and Cadena SER have decided to make this decision after Junts and the PP resigned late on Thursday to participate in it.
According to the affected media, Alejandro Fernández backed out citing scheduling problems – he received a visit from Alberto Núñez Feijóo and Isabel Díz Ayuso – despite the fact that the popular ones had confirmed their presence on Wednesday. Later, Carles Puigdemont’s party contacted the organization of the debate to communicate that they had “serious doubts” about participating in the debate and shortly after decided to decline the invitation.
The radio and the newspaper made the decision to cancel a debate that only included the PSC, ERC and Comuns Sumar because “it distorted the initial idea.” SER Catalunya regrets that its listeners “are deprived of an exchange of points of view between the leaders of the parties that have the possibility of forming a government.”
The journalist from SER Catalunya, Pablo Tallón, and the journalist Ana Pantaleoni, from El País Catalunya, were in charge of moderating the debate that was to be held at 10:30 a.m. in the Toresky studio of Ràdio Barcelona with a view to the elections that will be held this year. Sunday, May 12 in Catalonia.
Last year, both media outlets already had to cancel their electoral debate ahead of the general elections after the PP’s refusal and Vox’s resignation.
