The president of Junts per Catalunya (JxCat) in Maresme, Carles Bosch, has asked for the resignation of the councilor of the same party in Mataró, Xavier Font, as representative of the Maresme Regional Council. The wayward councilor skipped the voting discipline and by refusing to vote the proposal to denounce the agreement and the subsidy of the TecnoCampus circular economy chair chaired by the mayor of Mataró, David Bote. Font has declined to comment at the request of La Vanguardia.

Last Tuesday, December 19, one of the items on the agenda of the Regional Council of Maresme (CCM) established to denounce the current collaboration agreement between the Fundació TecnoCampus Mataró Maresme and the Regional Council of Maresme in order to establish their participation in the chair of circular economy and sustainability, formalized on November 16, 2021, which meant the termination of said agreement and therefore of the corresponding subsidy, pending, according to Junts sources, “a reformulation of the collaboration.” The proposal was successful thanks to the casting vote of the president of the CCM, Francesc Alemany (ERC), because Xavier Font refused to vote in favor and was absent from the plenary session.

The wayward councilor of Junts per Mataró not only refused to vote for the termination of the agreement with TecnoCampus but also attacked and insulted the president of Junts in Maresme, Carles Bosch. As confirmed by Bosch himself, Font, among other outbursts, accused him of “being incapable and not having the capacity or intellectual level to hold the position” as several witnesses have also confirmed to La Vanguardia. For his part, Xavier Font, has avoided using the right of reply that this newspaper has offered him.

To oppose the termination of the agreement, Font argued that he was vice president of Aigües de Mataró and that he could not vote against an initiative that arises from his own City Council and is promoted by the socialist mayor, David Bote. In the Mataró City Council, the two Junts councilors, Alfons Canela and Xavier Font, recently supported the budgets presented by the PSC and MataróEC, in exchange for several political prerogatives.

The controversy arises days after the PSC had voted against the Consell’s budget, when according to sources from the sovereigntists an abstention had been agreed. The breakdown of the pact is reflected in the confrontation between one of the socialist spokespersons and the vice president of the regional entity, Rafa Navarro, from Junts.

At the request of the regional leadership, the Junts en el Maresme group, which shares government in the CCM with ERC, will ask for the resignation of Xavier Font due to indiscipline and grievances against the president of the regional leadership. If you refuse, you will be considered a non-affiliated councilor and a disciplinary file will be opened. According to Junts sources, its partner in the Consell, Esquerra Republicana, will support the request for the expulsion of Xavier Font.
