The gunman from Canovelles, Roger López, who on April 9 murdered the manager of a shooting club, also shot at another user of the same center, but the gun did not work. It is stated in the judicial summary to which La Vanguardia has had access. Iván A. had been shooting in a shooting booth near the killer’s. He finished early and left for the bar. When he had already ordered a beer he realized that he had left his glasses in the shooting gallery. When he returned, he found the manager of the club, Jordi A., bleeding on the ground after having been shot five times. In front was Roger López, ex-military, wielding a revolver he had obtained from the club. “They have killed me, they have shot me”, the victim could stammer before dying.

Iván ran after the killer until he turned around. Iván slipped. From the ground he saw that the young man was pointing a gun at him and pulled the trigger, but the bullet did not go off. The man ran away and took refuge in the bathroom. At first, the investigators thought that the weapon had no ammunition, but when Roger López was arrested in Murcia, a nine millimeter Daewo pistol was seized with a bullet in the chamber, therefore the more likely option is that, fortunately, the gun was holstered. A court in Granollers that this week ratified the provisional prison for the detainee charges him with a crime of murder, five kidnappings and also an attempt to murder, as the newspaper El País reported yesterday.

According to the video recorded by the center’s security cameras, the victim, 54-year-old Jordi A., told the accused that they had five minutes to close. He was sweeping the shooting galleries when Roger López, without saying anything, went towards the person in charge and, taking advantage of the fact that he was on his back, fired five shots at him. After gunning down Iván, he went through the bar and said goodbye very coolly. “See you later”, he told them. The accused had no previous record and it is still not known what pushed him to kill and plunge into that spiral of violence.

It was 7:35 p.m. when the gunman started a hasty escape and assaulted several drivers at gunpoint to help him escape. When he left the shooting club, located in a secluded area, he ran into two octogenarians. He got into the car, took out his gun and told them: “Run, run, speed up, they want to kill me”. The gentleman, with great aplomb, told him to get out of the vehicle, but the gunman showed the weapon again and insisted: “Take me to Barcelona, they’re chasing me”. Again, the driver, very firmly, refused. “I’m not taking you to Barcelona.” He went around a roundabout twice and drove a few meters. His wife, sitting in the co-pilot’s seat, was crying in anguish. “Shut up, shut up, I won’t hurt him,” said the gunman. Finally he asked to be dropped off at a nearby gas station. “Sorry for the inconvenience”, he said goodbye.

He assaulted a 43-year-old woman and got into her car. “I have to leave Canovelles as soon as possible. They will kill me,” he told her while showing her the gun. The woman drove to Barcelona. First he wanted to go to Plaça Catalunya, but finally he passed through Plaça de les Glòries and took Diagonal to Francesc Macià. The killer forced her to skip several traffic lights while the driver begged her to let her go. “Don’t worry, nothing will happen to him”, he told her. He took her cell phone and looked for news about the murder he had just committed and also looked for prostitution services. “Putes Barcelona” and “Escorts Barcelona”, checked on Google. At Dalt’s round, he finally freed the woman. “Turn off the phone and don’t turn it on until you get home,” he told her.

The gunman then went to a car wash center in Pedralbes, in front of the Trinitàries school. There he kidnapped two 21-year-old girls, Mireia and Inés, gunned them down and forced them to take him south. The initial idea was to go to Tarragona, but plans changed along the way. Valencia, Albacete and, finally, Murcia. On the way the gunman tried to rob a Lidl supermarket and a gas station using one of the girls as a hostage, but found both establishments closed. During the journey, the young women, terrified, asked him where he came from. “If I tell you I will have to kill you”, he replied. After ten hours of anguish, the young women were released and the gunman arrested. Before, aware of what he had done, he commented: “I will rot in prison”.
