The Attorney General of the State, Álvaro García Ortiz, will respect the decision taken by the Deputy Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, María Ángeles Sánchez Conde, in the Democratic Tsunami case and the possible investigation of the former president of the Generalitat Carles Puigdemont for terrorism.
This was stated this Thursday by García Ortiz in an interview on the Hora 25 program on Cadena SER, stating that “my intention is to respect what the lieutenant prosecutor of the Supreme Court says.” He has also specified that “the State Attorney General has absolute competence to make the final decisions of the prosecution.
The State Attorney General has highlighted the professionalism and independence of the lieutenant prosecutor and has declared himself respectful towards all tax authorities involved in this case, both the Supreme Court and the National Court.
García Ortiz has insisted at several moments during the interview on not wanting to express “opinions” or make “legal hypotheses” on this matter, in which he has stressed that he has not participated in any way until now. “All this is a process in which I have not intervened,” he said.
The attorney general has assured that he has not exchanged criteria or opinions on the matter in question with Sánchez Conde nor did he do so with the prosecutor Álvaro Redondo, who this week presented his report or reasoned exposition to the Board of prosecutors of the Supreme Court, which finally agreed to request that Carles Puigdemont be investigated for terrorism in the Democratic Tsunami cause
García Ortiz flatly denied and described as “unfounded” the accusation that Redondo showed him two reports with different thesis before making his presentation before the Board of Prosecutors. Redondo simply informed him by protocol that he was going to present the report and its summary content that he presented to the Board, the attorney general said.
