The Catalan National Assembly (ANC), on the occasion of the next Diada demonstration and in view of the possible negotiations that may soon be opened for the investiture of the leader of the PSOE, Pedro Sánchez, has demanded that the pro-independence parties, specifically ERC and Junts, that they agree to achieve independence and “not to vote for presidents of the repressive State”, in reference to Spain, while rejecting any pact with Sánchez if there is no “explicit recognition” of 1-O as an “act of sovereignty that endorses Catalonia as a political subject in conflict with the State”.

In a statement, the pro-independence entity recalls that its only founding objective is the independence of Catalonia and understands that this must also be the objective of the pro-independence parties that have obtained representation in Congress. For this reason, he warns that negotiations with the state parties, which “defend the unity of Spain above all else”, are not a credible option, given that “Spain systematically fails to fulfill any commitment.”

For the ANC, any negotiation with the party that wants to govern the State can only be assumable if it goes through the “explicit recognition that the independence referendum on October 1, 2017 was the act of sovereignty that endorses Catalonia as a political subject in conflict with the State” and, therefore, and taking into account the result of this, “must entail respect for what the Parliament of Catalonia decides to make independence effective”.

For this reason, the Assembly demands that the pro-independence parties with representation in Spain, Junts and ERC, come to an agreement, “not to vote for presidents of the repressive State, but to activate the political majority of the Parliament and make independence effective.”

The ANC statement takes place on the same day that the second vice president of the acting Government, Yolanda Díaz, visits the leader of Junts Carles Puigdemont in Brussels within the framework of the talks for the investiture of Sánchez and that the president of the Generalitat , Pere Aragonès, and the Esquerra leadership have confirmed that they will attend the Onze de Setembre demonstration, something they did not do last year, arguing that the scenario is different and that the pressure is focused on the Spanish Government.
