Prince Mateen of Brunei, who is sixth in line to the sultanate’s throne but is one of the most visible faces of Asian royalty, and Bruneian aristocrat Anisha Rosnah wrapped up their lavish wedding celebrations of ten years yesterday days More than a week of rituals and pageants in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of the small country, for the engagement of the tenth son of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, one of the richest men in the world with a fortune estimated at about 15 billion euros
At the various rites and ceremonies of which photographs have emerged, the bride has been seen dressed in up to six different bridal looks with large jewels and all kinds of embroidery with gold and silver thread. For his part, the prince, who has 2.5 million followers on Instagram, used different traditional costumes and also wore military uniforms, given that, apart from being a helicopter pilot in the country’s air force, he has a long military career that began in 2010.
A wedding ceremony attended by around five thousand people was held on Sunday at the Nurul Iman Palace, the Sultan’s residence and seat of the Asian country’s government. It was then that the groom’s father placed the prince’s hand on the bride’s forehead as an official symbol of union. The palace itself, which has more than 1,700 rooms, was the scene of the subsequent wedding banquet, attended by some members of royalty such as King Jigme and Queen Jetsun Pema of Bhutan or King Abdullah and Queen Azizah of Malaysia, among others.
Spectacular ceremonies and set-ups for Bruneian royal weddings were already recently witnessed in the engagements of Princess Fadzilah and Princess Azemah in January 2022 and January 2023, respectively. But Prince Mateen, who is the most visible member of the royal family, due to his spread on Instagram and because he is considered the most coveted bachelor in Asia, has put the absolutist Islamic sultanate, rich in oil, back on the map.
On the part of the groom, there were some Argentine guests, since, as a great fan, he invited his teammates Pablo Mac, Tomás Gándara, and her husband, also a policeman, Lucas Fernández.
