The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will appear in the plenary session of Congress on December 20, before the end of the first period of sessions of the Chamber and once the new coalition Executive with Sumar has been formed.

The PP parliamentary group had requested Sánchez’s appearance to report on the conclusions of the last European councils held in Brussels, on June 29 and 30 just before Spain began its semiannual presidency of the Council of the European Union and traveled to Kiev to symbolize the continuity of its and the EU’s support for the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.

At that European Council, Sánchez met with the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, to maintain the European Union’s unwavering support for Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression.

Sánchez later attended the European Council on October 26 and 27 where he proposed the call within six months of an international peace conference to try to find a solution to the conflict in the Middle East, which in his opinion involves the coexistence of two states, Israel. and Palestine.

The Lower House reactivates the plenary sessions starting next week, and while on November 28 a plenary session will be held to modify the regulations of Congress and adapt the names of the parliamentary commissions to the new ministries, the next day, on the 29th, The solemn opening session of the fifteenth legislature of the Cortes, the Congress and the Senate will take place with the presence of the Kings.

There will be another plenary session on December 5 for the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, to appear, who will report on the Gaza war, almost two months after its start, at the request of the PP, as will the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, on December 13 to report on the migratory crisis that the Canary Islands are experiencing, after the arrivals of migrants to the Canary Islands so far this year exceed the great crisis of 2006.

The spokesperson for the PP in Congress, Cuca Gamarra, has regretted that the control of the Government will not take place until December 13 and that Sánchez’s appearance will be a week later, after the Chamber was established in August, almost five months ago.

The session will take place a week after the Chamber hosts the first control session of the Executive, specifically scheduled for December 13. However, the Government has already advanced to Congress that Sánchez will not be able to be in his seat that day to undergo his first duel in a control session in Congress with the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo.

And that Wednesday the President of the Government plans to appear before the European Parliament, at its headquarters in Strasbourg, to report on the result of the rotating Presidency of the EU that Spain has held since last July and of which He will say goodbye at the end of this year.

That same week, after the session in Strasbourg, the European Council meeting that will end the Spanish semester will take place in Brussels. Therefore, it is foreseeable that in his appearance in Congress on December 20, Sánchez will also give an account of that summit, as well as the other two Council meetings that have taken place since June, for which the PP has requested his appearance.

“We are facing a legislature that is characterized by democratic anomaly,” he stressed after emphasizing that control of the Government “is exercised by Puigdemont, by a fugitive from justice and is exercised outside our borders and outside our institutions”
