The high expectations that the Socialists had to launch their electoral campaign after the only face-to-face between Pedro Sánchez and Alberto Núñez Feijóo were frustrated, as some leaders admit, only fifteen minutes after the televised duel began.

Whenever Sánchez faced Feijóo in the Senate, he was knocked out and out of action, they say. And he also succeeded, they emphasize, in his more risky television interviews, with Pablo Motos or Ana Rosa Quintana. Which disappointed their optimistic forecasts even more, and undermined their morale, after seeing a Sánchez that Feijóo dislocated and took out of his lane, even if it was with “a mountain of lies”, as he denounced just yesterday the head of the Executive when he arrived at the NATO summit in Vilnius. “The noise prevented him from conveying his arguments more clearly”, they admit in the PSOE.

” Feijóo lied without disheveling. Sánchez tried to unmask his lies, with more or less success, but the format was very complicated”, they recognize Ferraz. “It is very difficult to defend your proposal, fight a lie and convey your truth, in front of those who just lie without blinking”, they justify. In addition, they assume that there is no possibility of “correcting” in a new face-to-face, since there will be no more: “Feijóo tries to expose as little as possible”.

Despite the fact that in no case were the expectations met, the socialists did not throw in the towel: “The campaign remains”. And the debate, they say, “will not condition the vote”. “A mistake can cost you dearly, but there were no mistakes by Sánchez”, they allege. The result of the face-to-face will also not modulate the strategy of putting all the focus on the alliance of the PP and the ultra-right Vox, they say, since they insist that the PSOE is “gaining positions” in the polls.

In other words, if Sánchez did not win the debate, the socialists want to “win the game” of the post-debate by denouncing Feijóo’s “lies”. The president started just yesterday, after being “satisfied” with the face-to-face meeting. “Many things have been clarified and it has become clear that the one who has the country project is the PSOE and not Feijóo”, he said.

“In front we saw lies, insults and a blatant use of ETA terrorism that Spanish society defeated many years ago”, warned Sánchez. “A mountain of lies because there is nothing behind it. What there is is a total absence of a political project and a disturbing tactic by Feijóo to embrace Abascal”.

“Do you really think we’re going to let this country go back to the past? Don’t even talk about it!”, Sánchez concluded in another election video in which, alongside other members of the Government, he counterattacks.
