“I demand that you ask for the resignation of Ayuso as president of the Community of Madrid, have courage, be brave, even if it costs you the position, like Casado”, asked Pedro Sánchez to Alberto Núñez Feijóo up to five times during the control session at the central government held yesterday in Congress. The bitter political battle between the PSOE and the Popular Party, due to the murky cases of alleged corruption that surround them, shot up the magnitude of the decibels in the hemicycle of the Carrera de San Jerónimo. And it became a real war without a break.
Sánchez, the day before, had avoided bringing up the case of the alleged tax fraud that now surrounds the partner of Isabel Díaz Ayuso, in the control session that took place in the Senate. But yesterday it exploded in the face of the PP leader’s attacks. In his attack strategy for the Koldo case, Feijóo even focused on the president’s wife, Begoña Gómez, and Sánchez also opted for a counterattack from the personal side.
Feijóo began by accusing Sánchez of keeping an “accomplice’s silence” in the face of the alleged corruption scandal in the Koldo case that is engulfing the Spanish Government and the PSOE: “He knew it and covered it up.” And he urged him to “face up” to this “very serious case of corruption”. The President of the Government, in his response, jumped at the throat of the leader of the PP.
After alleging that he is collaborating with justice, “holding accounts” with the creation of a parliamentary investigation commission and assuming “political responsibilities”, Sánchez accused him of using a “double measuring stick”. “Be consistent with what they preach”, claimed the PP group.
Sánchez recalled that the PP came out en masse last year to demand the resignation of the now former director general of the Civil Guard, María Gámez, after the imputation of her husband for alleged embezzlement and embezzlement, in a case that later be archived “I demand that you ask for the resignation of Ayuso as president of the Community of Madrid”, the head of the Executive demanded, consequently, to the leader of the main opposition party. “Be brave”, he told him, warning that his predecessor in the presidency of the PP, Pablo Casado, ended up being struck down in 2022 by his own party when he demanded explanations from Ayuso for the alleged irregularities that then affected the brother of the president of Madrid in the purchase and sale of masks during the pandemic.
Feijóo replied to Sánchez that the strategy of turning on the fan to try to cover up the Koldo case with the controversy that is now splashing Ayuso only shows “desperation”. But the leader of the PP considered this reaction of the leader of the PSOE a “very serious mistake”. “Surely they are not very happy at home”, he warned him, in a veiled allusion to his wife, Begoña Gómez, who is also being implicated in the Koldo case. “Begoña, Begoña”, cried the PP group.
Sánchez insisted on demanding the resignation of Ayuso due to the prosecution’s investigation into alleged tax fraud against his partner, Alberto González, “even if it costs him the position” of leader of the PP.
But, given Feijóo’s implicit reference to his wife, Sánchez loaded up with all the artillery and reproached him for his “close friendship for five years with a drug lord in Galicia”, with reference to Marcial Dorado.
Sánchez warned that Feijóo, being a high official of the Xunta de Galicia, shared a table, hotels, holidays and trips to the Canary Islands, Ibiza, Portugal and Andorra with this “drug lord”. In this visit to Andorra with Feijóo, he assured, Dorado allegedly laundered 21 million French francs.
This, Sánchez concluded, is the “big difference” between the two, and between the PSOE and the PP. “You, with this history, have been able to climb to the top of everything in your party, and in my party you wouldn’t even have reached town councilor”, he said.
