On the first day, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin is being held accountable by the world.
Canada, Australia, and Japan are just a few of the countries that have condemned the attack. This has triggered anger across Europe, with leaders demanding Russia cease its aggression.
Boris Johnson, the British Prime Minister, stated that the world can’t look away and promised to respond with unprecedented levels of sanctions.
He stated that Putin had chosen the path of destruction and bloodshed by launching an unprovoked attack against Ukraine. “This is a disaster for our continent.”
French President Emmanuel Macron stated that the events of last evening, when Russia launched its attack, “mark a pivotal moment in the history of Europe and France.”
He stated, “We will respond unwaveringly to this act of warfare with composure and determination, unity”
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, stated that Putin is responsible for bringing back war in Europe.
She stated that “we will target strategic sections of the Russian economy by blocking access to key technologies, markets” “We will weaken Russia’s economic base and its ability to modernize.”

Antonio Guterres, U.N. Secretary General, warns that war could cause a humanitarian disaster and says it will “cause a level not seen in Europe after the Balkan crisis.”
China is one nation that is not following the same path. A Chinese foreign military spokeswoman refused to call Russia’s military attack an “invasion” and instead urged all sides to be restrained.
Putin is now facing a wall of support from the West and an incoming wave economic pain after the invasion.
