The candidate of the PSC for the mayor of Badalona (Barcelonès North), Rubén Guijarro, has challenged this Tuesday by letter the mayor of the PP in the city, Xavier GarcÃa Albiol, to hold a face-to-face “serene” debate, to “counter” their respective projects.
In an informative contact with journalists, Guijarro has exposed the axes of his electoral proposal, which goes through “consolidating the positive image of Badalona” and placing the citizenry “at the center of the management”, and has shown his commitment to a “Badalona diametrically different” from that of Albiol’s mandate.
Despite the fact that Xavier GarcÃa Albiol’s PP is in the majority in the consistory (11 councillors), the PSC groups (6), Guanyem Badalona en Comú (4), ERC (3), Badalona En Comú Podem (2) and Junts (1) In November 2021, they promoted a motion of censure against the then popular mayor for his appearance in the ‘Pandora papers’.
Now, the Badalona City Council is led by Guijarro, with a coalition government between Socialists, ERC, Comunes and Junts, and with the external support of Guanyem Badalona, a formation headed by the CUP deputy Dolors Sabater.
“We want to debate, to compare models and proposals and, above all, that the residents are sufficiently informed in order to be able to make a decision as important as choosing the next mayor”, explained the socialist candidate, who has assured that “everyone knows” that the elections go to “Albiol or Rubén Guijarro”.
The current mayor of Badalona has branded as “undemocratic” that the PP candidate “is missing”, since he does not “grant any type of interview”, and has warned of the possibility that Albiol “is in prison or disabled”. within a year as a result of the judicial investigation into the ‘Pandora papers’.
On the other hand, Guijarro has opted to continue with the “stability project” headed by his government, a “cohesive, solid and knowledgeable team of the moment”, and has defended the “positive projection” of Badalona to “recover pride ” from the city.
In relation to governance, he has advanced that his objective is to consolidate his project through a “broader” majority of the PSC, but he has not closed the door to reissue the current coalition formula and has added that, if a According to other formations, “it will be in favor of the city”.
With his eyes set on the day after the elections on May 28, Guijarro has placed the “positioning” of Badalona as a priority so that it “returns to being a benchmark”, as well as the “ability to retain” the talent generated in the city , especially in the surroundings of the Germans Trias Hospital and the biomedical ‘hub’. He has also expressed the need to “consolidate the maritime façade” and to face the changes in the budget derived from the new cleaning contract, which is expected to enter into force in the next term.
