After the success of the daily series La promesa a la tarda and 4 estrellas at night, RTVE is betting on a new daily fiction to strengthen the grid and maintain this audience run that has led La 1 to place- se as second in the monthly ranking after surpassing Telecinco.
The new series, La Moderna, will premiere on Wednesday with two episodes at 10.40 p.m. in multichannel format (La1, La 2, Clan and RTVE Play), and from Thursday an episode will be broadcast every afternoon in tandem with La promesa.
Stories of women willing to change their destiny, capable of suffering, loving, laughing and being moved are the common thread of this new series, based on the novel Tea rooms, by Luisa Carnés, which is set in Madrid from 1930 and follows the stories of workers and customers of a distinguished and central salon.
At the recent presentation of the series on the sets where it is shot, RTVE’s director of cinema and fiction, José Pastor, highlighted this chain’s commitment to daily fiction series. “In an environment in which the consumption of fiction has changed and we increasingly get used to watching the episodes we want when we want, we think it is important to use this format of fiction that accompanies the viewer every day and we believe that this series will fulfill the expectations”.
Luis Santamaría, director of fiction at Boomerang TV and executive producer, said that it is “a very ambitious series, with exteriors of Madrid in the 1930s, and a piece of casting, writers and directors”.
For her part, the actress Helena Ezquerro, who plays the protagonist of the series, Matilde, assured that it was “an honor to represent a character with this courage and dignity”.
Co-produced by RTVE and Mediawan with the participation of Boomerang TV (El secreto de Puente Viejo and), the new series is shot in natural locations in Madrid from the beginning of the 20th century and on sets of more than 2,500 m2 that recreate the tea room, an imposing commercial gallery and the homes of the protagonists in an emblematic corral.
Music will play a prominent role in the new production, and the central theme is performed by Pastora Soler and composed by Tony Sánchez-Ohlsson.
The song, titled La Moderna, was specially composed for the series and for Pastora Soler and talks about the love story that takes place in the tea room that gives the fiction its name.
La Moderna begins when Matilde (Helena Ezquerro) sees how her life changes radically after the sudden death of her father. A fact that will mark the lives of the Garcés family, starting with the widow Rosario (Miryam Gallego) and continuing with her brothers.
In the tumultuous Madrid of the 1930s, Matilde will need to support her family and will find work in a tea room. There she will begin her adventure with her companions and, above all, she will be reunited with Íñigo (Almagro San Miguel), an old friend from the past.
