A longtime Oregonian, I have benefited from having Medicare Advantage for 19 years. Offering more health and preventive services than normal Medicare, Medicare Advantage has truly been a great resource for me. And it makes so much sense: Why not promote the healthiest population possible?
Through Medicare Advantage, I have enjoyed the benefits of regular group exercise with other seniors, keeping me in good shape. I have observed similar results in others. I also have noticed a growth in the sense of community among participants, supporting mental and emotional health. It is heartening to know there are currently more than 348,000 Oregonians that have a Medicare Advantage health care plan, and that number continues to grow every year.
Sadly, the program faces proposed budget cuts every year. Without the program, however, seniors would have less access to important preventive health measures, which include the fitness classes and gym membership vital to remaining physically independent in later life.
I want to thank Representatives Earl Blumenauer, Kurt Schrader, and Greg Walden for voicing their support for Medicare Advantage. I would now urge Senator Ron Wyden to stand up for Medicare Advantage. Oregon’s seniors depend on him.
