The return to the key of the Junts negotiation has implied a silence in the formation in everything related to the talks for a possible investiture – either of Alberto Núñez Feijóo or of Pedro Sánchez – than for other issues, however, does not hold One of which, amnesty considerations. Yesterday, the lawyer and member of Junts’ guarantees committee, Magda Oranich, “radically” rejected that a hypothetical amnesty law approved by Congress could include the president of the party, Laura Borràs, convicted by the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) to four and a half years in prison and thirteen years of disqualification for document falsification and prevarication.

Oranich reacted this way to Catalunya Ràdio after the congressional spokesperson, Míriam Nogueras, defended in an interview with ACN a few days ago that Borràs was included in the possible amnesty law. For the lawyer, “it’s barbarity”, emphasizing that Borràs’ sentence is for a “common crime” and not for facts related to 1-O or the pro-independence cause.

In any case, Oranich recalled that there are other ways, such as the pardon by the current government that the same court recommended. In addition, the Supreme Court still has to say the last word.

“A crime that has nothing to do with the 1-O, as it can be a common law crime, of falsifying documents, can have other measures of grace. (…). But a political amnesty, because he has acted politically, not radically”, pointed out Oranich.

The lawyer, however, wanted to make it clear that she was speaking as a lawyer, and not on behalf of JxCat.

The interview caused reactions in the party. Member of Parliament Cristina Casol, very close to Laura Borràs, opposed Oranich: “If he speaks as a jurist, I will speak as an architect: always build and not continually destroy because of personal aversions”. The comment is on Twitter, replicated by the president of Junts. Also Francesc de Dalmases, deputy equally close to Laura Borràs, disagreed, rejecting reactions against Oranich.

It should be remembered that the lawyer was in charge of the internal investigation undertaken by Junts for inappropriate behavior of the parliamentarian with a TV3 journalist. The report concluded that the party leader also had the “wrong” attitude after “losing his temper in an exaggerated manner”.
